Acorn Cupcakes October 28, 2011

Filed under: Crafts,HELLO CUPCAKE CHALLENGE — Sharon @ 11:41 am

I loved how simple and easy these cupcakes are.  Besides the stuff to make the cupcakes all you need it Hershey kisses and something for the top.  I used mini pecan sandies but I know other options are chocolate melting chips or mini  Nilla wafers.    I also saw some mini nutter butters that would be perfect.

Unwrap all the kisses.  I did mini cupcakes with one acorn on each and a few large cupcakes with 2 on top.  One bag of kisses is more than enough.

To glue the tops and bottoms I used chocolate frosting.  I also added a little stem.

I made a bunch of these first so when I frosted the cupcakes I could stick an acorn to each one.

I couldn’t decide is I wanted to make them green or leave the frosting white.  So I made one of each first.  I decided I didn’t love the color and couldn’t get the right shade of green.

I know these look very simple but somehow I still manage to make a total mess.

I had some fall leaf sprinkles that were perfect for these cupcakes. Here is the final results.

I brought these cupcakes to the campground for the Halloween celebrations.    I had some left over batter so I made some larger ones for the guys at work.

Memorial Day Blog Hop May 28, 2011

A special thanks to all the military families that have given so much to protect my family and our freedom.

I sincerely thank you!

Memorial Day started as an event to honor Union soldiers, who had died during the American Civil War. It was inspired by the way people in the Southern states honored their dead. After World War I, it was extended to include all men and women, who died in any war or military action.

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. The current name for this day did not come into use until after World War II. Decoration Day and then Memorial Day used to be held on May 30, regardless of the day of the week, on which it fell. In 1968, the Uniform Holidays Bill was passed as part of a move to use federal holidays to create three-day weekends. This meant that that, from 1971, Memorial Day holiday has been officially observed on the last Monday in May. However, it took a longer period for all American states to recognize the new date.

Wedding Cake May 13, 2011

My Uncle GARY is getting married Memorial Day Weekend!  I am very happy for him and his new bride so I made them this cute “Clean and Simple” card!

I really like the Mr & Mrs embossed in silver, I tried to get a good photo of what I mean when I say “embossed” for you non- card making readers.  It is sort of raised off the paper and shinny

New Martha Stewart Stamp Toy April 14, 2011

Filed under: Crafts — Sharon @ 11:31 am

I bought this kit from Martha Stewart at Micheals and I was hoping that I was going to LOVE it, but really so far not so good.  I would not spend the money again on this one.

It is supposed to allow you to make a custom stamps and the ones on the package look AWESOME so of course I wanted it.

It comes with 2 circles and 2 squares that you can load with little tiny letters and a few other characters and then you create whatever sentiment or phrase you want on it.

The problem is that the characters are so tiny that they are difficult to work with and they do not stand out far enough from the background that if you push down too hard it smears and to light and the image does not show up correctly.  I took a few attempts to get this image on scrap paper before trying it out and wasting any good cardstock.

I have only played with this toy once so I am not totally giving up on it yet but I wasn’t swept away by it.  I think that all those little pieces are going to suck to keep track of too.  They come all attached and you have to separate them to make words and then I am sure I am going to loose a few vowels here and there.

Clean and Simple Challenge April 3, 2011

1st attempt (For those who remember my “ocean sunset” card…..i did have a sailboat this whole time, crazy me.)

And my 2nd attempt

Cutting out all the little flip flop laces got a little tricky but worth the struggle.  Both of these cards I used the Cricut “Lifes a Beach” cartridge and both were cut at 1 and 1/4 inches.

Wine Cards April 1, 2011

The Cricut that I have has cutting sheets that hold only paper up to 6inches across so when you use  a standard 8.5 X 11 you have to cut off a strip of about 2 inches and you get a ton of paper that is wasted or if you save it as scraps you get a drawer full of 2 inch paper strips so I came up with this awesome solution to my paper problem!   I cut a hole in the top at 1 1/4 inches.

and I made these super cute and very useful Wine Cards Hangers!   The sentiment if from Papertrey Ink “Mixed Messages” collection.  ~For a Gracious Hostess~

I think it came out adorable so I made another one and heat embossed  “Celebrate” across a 2 inch cut out from ” Summer in Paris” Cartridge

I think this would also make a cute little book mark too!

You could really use these for any occasion and I have a lot of sentiments to go with it.  Happy birthday! Happy Retirement! Enjoy the Moment! Ohhh so many ideas!

I need to make more of these ASAP!  So easy and the paper saving is an added bonus!
